Body

The Greg and Camille Baroni Center for Government Contracting is pleased to announce the naming of a new executive director, Mike Derrios, MBA ‘06, an accomplished chief procurement officer with 30 years of experience across U.S. military, federal government, and private sector organizations.

Mike’s success in leading strategic global procurement operations for national security programs with Congressional engagement has had a positive impact on commerce and a large variety of stakeholders, including foreign service workers, members of the military, travelers, and transportation workers.

“Mike brings a diverse set of leadership experiences and successful outcomes to his new role—from his work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in leading the design and expansion of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck® Application Program to his most recent experience as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Acquisition, U.S. Department of State, where he led a global workforce of 1500, executed an average annual spend of $15 billion, and established global procurement policies that drove supplier consolidation, leveraged the agency’s buying power, and improved vendor management for direct and indirect spend,” said Costello College of Business Dean Ajay Vinzé. “I am looking forward to Mike’s contributions to the continued success of the Baroni Center as a leading neutral convening authority for the $800 billion dollar government contracting industry, particularly as we look to expand its scope to civilian government agencies and commercial contracting.”

The Baroni Center is the first-in the-nation university center to address the business, policy, and regulatory issues in government contracting. The center is also the first named center of excellence within the Costello College of Business at George Mason University. Through research, education and training, and collaboration, the center is spurring innovation and entrepreneurship for government, industry, and academia.

“The Baroni Center brings a unique and respected voice to conversations about how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars to accomplish its mission and I am looking forward to leveraging my industry experience in a way that helps the center to improve federal contracting outcomes, build the workforce of the future, and bridge the communities within the government contracting ecosystem,” said Mike Derrios.
