Am I eligible for this program if I don’t have an undergraduate degree in accounting?
Yes. Applicants without an undergraduate degree in accounting may still be admitted to the program. Depending on your academic background, you may receive either Conditional Admission or Provisional Admission with instructions for completing required preparatory coursework.
What preparation is required if I don’t have an undergraduate degree in accounting?
There are two paths to being fully admitted to the program for candidates without an undergraduate degree in accounting.
The first is to complete required pre-work and coursework prepared by the College of Business.
- You may receive Conditional Admission and must finish a set of DataCamp modules, before receiving Provisional Admission.
- If the DataCamp modules are complete but you have not taken GBUS/MBA 613, you will receive Provisional Admission. To become fully admitted, you must complete GBUS 613: Financial Reporting and Decision Making with a grade of B or better on your first attempt, within your first six credits in the program.
The second option is to complete 24 credits of coursework, specifically, 6 credits in Principles of Accounting, 6 credits of Intermediate Financial Accounting, 3 credits of Managerial/Cost Accounting, 3 credits of Audit, 3 credits of Tax, and 3 credits of Accounting Analytics. Northern Virginia Community College or another local community college would offer these courses.
Is the MS in Accounting program STEM-designated?
Yes. The MS in Accounting is a STEM-designated program. The STEM designation provides F-1 visa students the benefit of working in the United States for up to 36 months. Traditionally, with an F-1 visa in a non-STEM program, an F1 student would be eligible for up to 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) authorized work. With this STEM designation, F-1 students are allowed to extend their OPT period by up to 24 months.
How long will it take for me to complete the Master of Science in Accounting program?
