Cara Williams is the Administrative Assistant for the Center for Real Estate Entrepreneurship (CREE) and the Master’s in Real Estate Development (MRED) program at the Costello College of Business.

A long-standing rule in the real estate industry is follow the jobs. Job growth is the leading indicator of strong demand for new residences, stores and places of work. While still true, an important fine-tuning to the rule is: follow the jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

STEM jobs are the gold standard for stimulating innovation and economic growth because STEM job growth is double non-STEM growth and its salaries are nearly double non-STEM. STEM jobs disproportionately enrich regional economies resulting in a ruthless competition among every State and municipality.

I’m thrilled to welcome you to the relaunch of the newsletter for the Costello College of Business’s Center for Real Estate Entrepreneurship and the Master’s in Real Estate Development (MRED). As the new Executive Director, I’m honored to join a community shaping the next generation of real estate professionals through its commitment to academic excellence, professional achievement, and industry engagement.

Our spotlight this issue is on George Pratt, a member of the spring 2025 Costello College of Business MS in Real Estate Development (MRED) graduating class.

The capstone class was designed as the culmination of the Costello College of Business's Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MRED) program. As one of their last classes, graduating students form a development team that closely simulates working in the private sector.

For a wide range of real estate professionals, like engineers, architects, developers, planners, lenders, asset managers, attorneys, and others, the Costello College of Business’s Master of Science in Real Estate Development program can strengthen employment potential and upward career mobility.

Fairfax City mayor and George Mason University alumna Catherine S. Read (BA ’84) and George Mason University School of Business Dean Ajay Vinzé will sign a partnership agreement on October 2 aimed at promoting economic growth in the city while giving students access to experiential learning opportunities that will benefit local businesses and students.
