Biography
Christopher W. Soong is Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at HII, a $12 billion Fortune 400 company and the nation’s largest military shipbuilder. He leads digital strategy, enterprise IT, cloud operations, and application modernization, driving scalable, technology enabled business value.
A seasoned executive, Soong has spent much of his 30-year career in large scale enterprises and private equity backed firms, where he has led enterprise innovation, platform modernization, and aligned digital investments with operational excellence. His expertise spans agile delivery, DevSecOps, cloud native operations, AI and analytics, cybersecurity operations, risk management, and M&A integration. He has built secure, high performing environments and developed strong technology teams and digital first cultures.
Prior to joining HII, he held senior technology leadership roles at Alion Science and Technology and Booz Allen Hamilton. He has been recognized as Public Company CIO of the Year by WashingtonExec and received the Corporate CIO of the Year ORBIE® Award from CapitalCIO. Soong serves as Chair Emeritus of CapitalCIO and contributes to advisory boards including the WashingtonExec CIO Executive Council and two alumni advisory boards at Virginia Tech—the Department of Business Information Technology and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has also been a mentor at Columbia University’s Center for Technology Management.
He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, completed executive leadership programs at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, and participated in the CIO Institute at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
