New Fall Class: Improv for the Workplace (BUS 291)

Looking for a hands-on, interactive course focused on real-world skills with no exams or long papers?

BUS 291: Improv for the Workplace will focus on learning by doing. Classes will be active, engaging, and a lot of fun. You’ll be on your feet, working with others, and thinking on the spot while developing valuable skills. No experience needed and no expectation to be “funny.” Most of the work will happen in class.

No exams or long papers. Instead:

  • Short, practical reflections connecting improv to business situations
  • Watching and discussing improv performances
  • A supportive final showcase where you apply what you’ve learned for a live audience

You’ll build skills that matter in any business setting:

  • Clear communication and active listening
  • Adaptability and quick thinking
  • Confidence and presence
  • Team collaboration under pressure

Open to all undergraduates, but especially relevant for Costello students. Counts as a 3-credit general elective (does not satisfy any Costello core or concentration requirements).

Enrollment is capped at 16. Instructor permission is required so priority can be given to students in a Costello program.

To request a spot, email Dr. Steve Pilloff (spilloff@gmu.edu).
